As the training had come along a lot over the past weeks, we were very confident that we could do well at champs eights head this year. Our goal was to set a new course record and beat the previous 4:20.4 set by clare M1 two years ago. We gave ourselves plenty of time to warm up down to the start and got a 1min burst up to the start to get the blood flowing and the nerves out: "a lung opener" as grip would say. It was a bit tense but it was good. We then had to wait for a little too long but managed to set off first as Maggie had arrived late.

We had a very clean start, perhaps a little too clean, we only brought the rate up to 41-42. As planned we pushed out of grassy corner and maintained decent splits from then onwards. As soon as Harry called us up having splits higher than the course record (1:31.5) we brought it back down which makes me think we could have probably done better. We averaged a solid 36-37 the whole way but could have definitely done with a pip or two higher.

We stuck to our plan and got a course record by about a second. Sadly, that was not enough. However, I am fully confident that adding a little more grunt to it we can add a lot of speed.
