8th/35 Women's Senior VIIIs in 16 mins 33.57 secs, 5th fastest Women's College VIII

Nicola Pocock reports:

Overall, it was a good race. We hit a great rhythm off the start- I was astonished to hear Esther say we'd reached rate 33 on about the third stroke of our build- it felt more like 24! That rhythm carried us all the way through to Chesterton, during which time we took a lot out of Churchill ahead. On the reach, tiredness kicked in a bit and we didn't have quite the same magic as in the first third. The rhythm still was far from bad though, and it carried through to Ditton where we started to smell the end. With that extra bit of push the speed picked up again, and we took her through the corners with excellent lines from Esther. The build for the finish on first post reach was tired, but still powerful, and we took her home nicely. A really good race.

I think the result speaks for itself really. To be in the top five is a great achievement for us, and bodes very well for bumps next term.

On a personal note- I am thoroughly ecstatic to finally race Fairbairns with Clare, and make it all the way to the end without having to stop! (This is my third Fairbairns...) Coming in the top five is also a pretty nice bonus!

32nd/65 Men's Novice VIIIs in 10 mins 52.20 secs

Rebecca Chamberlin reports:

I feel like one of us should write a report for once, so, here goes...I think this was a race where we finally managed to do ourselves justice. The boys found a rhythm that was sustainable and stuck to it. There were the odd scrappy patches here and there but they were brief, we always got it back together quickly, stayed focussed and never hit the bank once! Good responses to calls and effective pushes (although I promise you I never called 'power ten'!) and nice rhythm. Was it the t-shirts? Was it the effects of drinking the night before? Who cares: it was a very enjoyable potentially-last row together. It was really good guys!

Bow: Amy Gimson 2: Esther Momcilovic 3: Catherine Pulman 4: Rachel Boyd 5: Clare Thakker 6: Hemma Brandstaetter 7: Denys Zhuo Stroke: Emma Shaw Cox: Anne Turberfield

48th/59 Women's Novice VIIIs in 13 mins 10.09 secs

Esther Momcilovic reports:

We had a lot of problems in this race. Emma's tendonitis at stroke lashed out with a vengeance soon off the start, meaning it was difficult for her to sustain a rhythm - massive kudos to her for sticking with it though, considering how much pain she was in. This meant that timing was a massive issue in this race, often rowing in antiphase. You must must must watch the girl in front and stay with her. Neverthless, you've all had a good term's rowing and should be proud of how far you've come.

33rd/59 Women's Novice VIIIs in 12 mins 31.49 secs

Esther Momcilovic reports:

This time would have been much faster had we not been stuck behind Darwin. We were ready to overtake well before Chesterton, and so had to wind it down for about a minute until we were allowed to go past. A good race, with excellent timing - but remember to square up early! The pushes were good and it felt really together. Well done!
